Eligible employees are welcome to an array of benefits, including medical and dental coverage, life and disability insurance, and a 403(b) retirement savings program.


11 paid holidays—New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King’s Birthday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, the day before or after Christmas (to be determined by management).


15 days for new hires to two years, 20 days for two years to six years, 25 days after six years of employment.

Sick Leave

Full-time employees accrue 12 days of sick time each year. Sick leave can be used for personal illness or injury, doctor or dental appointments, or to care for an ill family or household member, including companion animals

Medical Coverage

All eligible employees of Alley Cat Allies can choose among several coverage plans for medical. Alley Cat Allies offers the Carefirst BlueChoice Plus plan for anyone located inside the BlueChoice service area and the Carefirst BluePreferred PPO plan for members outside of the BlueChoice service area.  Employee’s portion of the premiums are paid with pre-tax dollars.

Dental Coverage

The Dental Plan offers coverage for preventative, basic, and major services through Metlife.

Vision Coverage

Discounted vision coverage for eye exams, lenses, frames and/or contact lenses offered through Metlife.

Retirement Savings 403(b)

Eligible employees have the option to invest in a 403(b) tax-deferred annuity. This plan is funded through employee payroll contributions on a pre-tax basis and is available to the employee for contributions upon employment. The plan includes an employer match of up to 2% of pay after and an employer contribution of 3% of pay after one year of employment, subject to limitations imposed by the Internal Revenue Code.

Flexible Spending Accounts (Health Care and Dependent Care)

Full-time employees have the option to enroll in a flexible spending account for health care and/or dependent care.  Employees may enroll in the plan at the commencement of employment, during any open enrollment season, or pursuant to a qualifying life event.  Contributions to these plans are subject to the annual maximums as defined by the IRS.

Life and Disability Insurance

Full-time employees are covered under both short-term and long-term disability insurance programs.  Alley Cat Allies pays the full premium for this coverage. Short-term and long-term disability benefits are intended to provide an income subsidy during qualified periods of illness, injury or disability, up to the maximum described in the summary plan descriptions. Further details on disability insurance are available from management. During periods of disability, Alley Cat Allies will continue to pay health insurance premiums in accord with the terms and conditions of the benefits programs in place while the employee is receiving disability benefits.  Employees on short-term or long-term disability or unpaid leave period (7 consecutive days or more) do not accrue leave during the period of disability.  While on disability, employees are expected to continue to pay any benefit contributions required per the terms and conditions of the benefits programs and maintain regular and consistent contact with management regarding their disability status.
