Happy National Black Cat Day! Today, we celebrate black cats from all walks of life—and how lucky we are to have them in ours!
In honor of the day, Alley Cat Allies is spotlighting just some of the heartwarming stories of black cats you helped us save in 2026. Black cats deserve no less than the protection and love we provide to cats of all coat colors. Thanks to your support, we provide that care, dispel harmful myths, and so much more!

Neo’s Unbreakable Sweet Spirit
We all have our scars. But Neo’s, across his nose, doesn’t just speak to what he’s been through. It speaks to the power of access to care, and to the compassion and generosity that make it possible.
Thanks to your support, we could provide Neo with lifesaving medical care and surgery to repair a severe wound that once spanned much of his face. Since that day, he has known nothing but love and comfort, including the companionship of other cats who welcomed him into their space.
We’ll never get tired of sharing Neo updates, or of seeing that sweet face and knowing how far he’s come! We hope he inspires you the way he inspires our team.
Saving Three Tiny Kittens on a Cold Texas Day
If you were following Alley Cat Allies’ Global Cat Day celebration on October 16, you may recognize these little faces! Two black, one tabby, all adorable.
While on the ground in Granite Shoals, Texas, for a special Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) clinic, we stumbled upon these three neonatal kittens at a local property.
It was an unusually cold day for a Texas October—too cold for tiny kittens clearly suffering from upper respiratory infections to go without treatment. Thankfully, because of our Global Cat Day action, veterinary care was already on site just five minutes away!
We scooped the kittens up, kept them warm, and brought them in to fill their bellies and have their eyes checked at the clinic.
Today, we’re happy to report that all three kittens are healing well. Other than their URIs, they were healthy and stable. Even better: all of the wet food we brought is in caregivers’ hands to protect even more community cats and kittens!
The Amazing Before and After of Felix the Cat
Talk about a heartwarming before and after! Not only did our supporters help us save Felix and provide the medical care he needed to heal and thrive, but you also chose his name.
Felix means happy, fortunate, and lucky, and we think it suits him well. Thanks to supporters like you, he can show more of his happy-go-lucky side every day. His latest habit: batting at the camera when someone tries to take a photo!
Felix’s transformation is just one example of the incredible impact when cats have access to the care they need. Your support makes it possible for cats across the country and beyond!
From Patient to Clinic Greeter—Reno’s Amazing Recovery
From being rushed to the veterinary clinic, barely clinging to life, to becoming that same clinic’s greeter, happily making rounds and lifting spirits, Reno has come such a long way!
As a young kitten, Reno came into our care with a badly infected wound spanning his lower abdomen and backside. Though we immediately started expert veterinary treatment, there were hours we were not sure he would make it through the night.
But Reno has a true fighting spirit, and every day he braved his treatment, healed more, and grew stronger. And today, he brings so much light-hearted fun to the very same veterinary clinic where he was saved.
These days, Reno makes the rounds, checking on the other animals and rubbing on legs and hopping into laps in the waiting room. In his off hours, you can find him stretched out in the waiting room chairs and enjoying a nap.
Sally and Augusta Live Carefree Days in Puerto Rico
Sally loves climbing trees and surveying her beautiful outdoor domain. Augusta is a huge fan of curling up in cardboard boxes and enjoying a catnap. And both can continue to thrive in their outdoor homes because we fought for them to do so together.
For years, Alley Cat Allies has worked in Puerto Rico to save the community cats of the Paseo del Morro from a National Park Service (NPS) plan to remove and kill them.
And this summer, we negotiated an agreement with the NPS to ensure the cats are no longer in danger of lethal removal.
Today, we continue to provide comprehensive care for the Paseo cats, cats like Sally and Augusta, so they can live the long and happy lives they deserve!
Snowball’s Unique Surgery Was a Rousing Success
After surgery to remove his injured eye and prevent a unique form of cancer, Snowball is doing amazing! A recent visit to the veterinarian came with heartening news: Snowball has healed perfectly and, even better, he’s gaining plenty of healthy weight in our care!
Cats can adjust very well to life with one eye, and we’ve been watching closely to make sure Snowball is happy and comfortable. He’s still getting used to his new field of vision, but it hasn’t stopped him from hitting his milestones with recovery and getting comfortable—including with other cats!
Take Snowball’s story as a reminder: if you know a cat has a history of eye trauma, talk with your veterinarian to ensure they’re closely monitored for any signs of Feline Ocular Post-Traumatic Sarcoma. Catching the signs early, or taking preventative action, makes all the difference.
Celebrating Senior Cat Sabrina
Can you guess Sabrina’s age just from looking at her? We bet you’ll be surprised!
Are you ready for the answer? Sabrina is…an amazing 16 years old!
She’s proof: Community cats can live long, healthy lives in their outdoor homes. Sabrina is one of the coolest community cats we know, and she’s always happy to say hello. But she’s truly an independent lady and has no desire to spend any time indoors.
At her golden age, Sabrina is still spry as ever. We look forward to many more amazing years with her!
Here’s to Sabrina, to all community cats, and, for good measure, to all black cats everywhere!
