Thank you so much for an amazing Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day!

From the U.S. to Syria, Puerto Rico to Thailand, people the world over celebrated with us and took action to say loud and clear that Cats Are CommunityTM.

The Alley Cat Allies team also had a great time on the ground in Texas, Puerto Rico, Virginia, Maryland, and more for special Global Cat Day events to help community cats and their caregivers!

Here are just a few highlights, from the Alley Cat Allies team in action to how advocates made a difference in their own communities in honor of the biggest day of advocacy and action for cats.

Alley Cat Allies in Action on Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day

Texas

October 16 was a big day protecting the cats of Granite Shoals, Texas, in honor of Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day!

We held a special Global Cat Day Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) clinic with the Hill Country Humane Society, with Alley Cat Allies covering the costs of all surgeries, vaccinations, and any other needed care. We also brought plenty of nutritious wet food to provide even more support to local caregivers.

While on the ground, we came across three tiny kittens. It was an unusually cold day for October in Texas, and all three had upper respiratory infections that needed immediate attention.

So, of course, we brought them in for treatment alongside the community cats at the mobile clinic! We made sure they were warm, fed, and had their eyes cleaned.

It’s always a pleasure to be back in the Granite Shoals area. Back in 2023, we spoke out against a discussion of lethal control of community cats, amplifying the voices of the Hill Country Humane Society, the Granite Shoals Police Department, and more local advocates and caregivers. And by March 2024, we’d helped the city adopt a positive TNR ordinance!

The TNR work in the city has only grown from there, and we’re proud to have helped guide and support it. There’s a lot more ahead to create a ripple effect of lifesaving change in the area, but today was another step!

Thank you for helping us protect even the tiniest of kittens when it matters most, on Global Cat Day and every day.

Maryland

In Maryland, Alley Cat Allies covered the cost of spay and neuter and TNR, including microchipping and vaccination, for cats on Global Cat Day week in collaboration with A Cat’s Life Rescue!

Not only are we providing access to care that makes a difference, but we also stocked the group’s food bank with wet cat food for the community! These are the resources that mean so much to the people caring for cats every single day.

Puerto Rico

Our team is always protecting community cats in San Juan and beyond, but on Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day, we took extra special time to care for cats like Llorin and Gizmo.

Along with providing daily care, we ensured cats receive access to veterinary care when they need it most. We headed to the clinic with Josie for a screening and treatment, and we’ll make sure she has everything she needs to thrive the way she deserves.

Alley Cat Allies has been in Puerto Rico for years to defend community cats, and recently, we achieved a major victory to ensure cats were not killed by a lethal U.S. National Park Service plan. Learn more in our Puerto Rico Victory video.

Virginia

Our team was back in Richmond on October 16 to provide no-cost cat food resources in collaboration with the Richmond SPCA!

We’ve been hard at work in the community to provide critical support—including TNR—to community cats and the people who care for them. We were honored to take it to the next level in honor of Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day.

New Jersey

Every day, Alley Cat Allies reaches cats across Atlantic County and beyond with daily cat food and care, critical access to medical care, including lifesaving surgery, and TNR. It was no different on Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day, but we were doing it in style!

What better way to spend the day than caring for the Boardwalk Cats? This model community cat program has inspired so many communities, showing the power of city-supported TNR in all its glory.

Arizona

Our work in the Phoenix, Arizona, area continued in honor of Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day! Along with connecting with local advocates and covering the costs of TNR, we expanded our education and outreach in Tempe to key community members.

Veterinarians put the “N” in TNR and so much more! In many ways, they are the beating hearts of humane, effective action for community cats. That’s why veterinarian buy-in and affordable services are essential to a thriving TNR program and community cat care as a whole.

Our team reached out to local veterinary clinics, offering our expert educational materials and guidance to encourage veterinarians to treat community cats in their practices.
