Important to Know: Cats with Eye Trauma are at Risk of a Rare Cancer

It may not be common knowledge, but it’s critical knowledge: A cat’s eye injury can lead to a deadly form of cancer.

When Snowball came to us with trauma to his left eye, we jumped into action with veterinary allies to provide emergency medical care. Once the injury was treated and he was out of pain, we knew we had to make a decision. Because Snowball was still at risk of Feline Ocular Post-Traumatic Sarcoma.

This aggressive ocular cancer forms life-threatening malignant tumors. The time between the eye trauma and the development of the tumor can even span years. To ensure Snowball stayed cancer-free, we covered the costs of an eye enucleation. In other words, his injured eye was surgically removed.

We know from experience that cats still live perfectly happy lives with one eye. We’re continuing to help Snowball heal and adjust, and today, he’s doing amazing! Don’t mind his grumpy resting face—he’s a very sweet and cheerful guy!

If you know or believe a cat has a history of eye trauma, talk with your veterinarian to ensure they’re closely monitored.

We’re Caring for Senior Cat Sheba Through Her Golden Years

There’s something undeniably special about senior cats! We think Sheba is absolutely gorgeous, don’t you?

Though Sheba is in great shape for her age, veterinarians discovered that she was contending with an upper respiratory infection. Because we work closely with veterinarians across the country, Alley Cat Allies could provide Sheba the treatment she needed to heal.

This regal lady, befitting her name, has many amazing years ahead of her. We’re making sure she’s feeling her best through it all! And with her signature snaggletooth, we’re sure she’ll capture even more hearts along the way.

Your support covered the costs of Sheba’s medical care so she can live her best life in her golden years. For that, we can’t thank you enough on her behalf!

Even on Prison Grounds, Community Cats Are Home

Community cats really do live everywhere we do…including on prison grounds. And, most importantly, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) also works everywhere to protect and improve their lives. Just ask Linda here!

Alley Cat Allies’ Prison Cats Program has cared for community cats living near prisons for decades. Every cat is fed regularly and has been spayed or neutered through targeted TNR.

Cats like Linda can live out their lives in the outdoor spaces they know and love. The prison is home to these cats, and they want no other.

Atlantic County TNR Program Heading Toward 7,000 Cat Milestone

This is the power of TNR: Alley Cat Allies’ collaboration with the Humane Society of Atlantic County has spayed or neutered and vaccinated thousands of community cats like Milla, Little Boy, Tasha, and Tori!

With your support, we’re not only driving this critical program in Atlantic County (we also provide specialized surgery to any cat who needs it!), we’re advancing strong TNR programs in cities across the country.

In this one Atlantic County TNR collaboration alone, more than 6,000 community cats have been reached with surgery and no-cost cat food. Our next goal: 7,000 cats!

You can choose to support our TNR work and much more, your way. Visit alleycat.org/WaysToGive.

The True Answer to Kitten Season: Spay and Neuter Right Away

Picture 1: Strudel, an exhausted mother cat.

Picture 2: Pebbles, her kitten…who made her exhausted (adorable as she may be).

The best news: both are scheduled to be spayed, all thanks to our supporters like you!

This is your reminder to spay or neuter every cat as soon as possible. It’s the best way to protect their health and wellbeing, and to help them live their happiest and healthiest lives. Learn more about the many benefits of spay and neuter at alleycat.org/SpayNeuter.
