Ongoing TNR

At this point, you’ve mastered all there is to know about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and are well on your way to being caregiver of the year!

We are so proud of you and your efforts, but there’s still work to be done! It’s possible that cats from other areas will wander into your neighborhood, so you have to monitor the cats that you’ve already helped and see if anyone new has joined the community.

This is why having cats eartipped is so important in helping to identify which cats have been spayed or neutered, so all you need is a quick glance to see if someone’s already been through TNR. You can also create a spreadsheet to  help you monitor the number of cats in the community, their health status, their approximate age, and who has been spayed or neutered.

As for any friendly kitties you find in your community, you’ll want to prepare an action plan for either fostering them for adoption or including them in TNR, if they aren’t spayed or neutered already. If you need help determining if a cat could live happily indoors, check out our guide for feral and stray cats.
