Alley Cat Allies’ Rapid Response Team Stands Ready for Hurricane Isaias
With Hurricane Isaias expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast as early as late Friday, Alley Cat Allies is connecting with allies in projected impact areas to prepare to protect cats.
Our Rapid Response Team stands ready to assist with medical care, emergency supplies and boarding, and more. We urge everyone in areas with evacuation orders to please evacuate with their indoor cats and other pets.
Alley Cat Allies has important information on how to evacuate safely with cats and prepare community cat colonies for disasters at alleycat.org/DisasterTips. Please share this information ahead of the storm.
New Jersey Nor’easter Flood Response Update: Saving a Family of Six
Since a powerful nor’easter struck the Jersey shore in late September, Alley Cat Allies’ Rapid Response Team has been hard at work to protect affected cats.
When a community cat caregiver in Atlantic County reached out to us about three kittens who suddenly appeared at her colony after the flooding, we jumped into action.
Our team trapped the three kittens…then spotted three more! All are about 6 weeks old. The entire little family is now receiving care through our disaster relief grant at the Humane Society of Atlantic County.
All are being treated for upper respiratory issues, and three of them will need more intensive treatment for eye infections. We’re going to do everything it takes to help them heal and thrive.
Disasters like the nor’easter storm can cause cats and kittens to become displaced into areas unfamiliar to them. Our team takes to the ground to trap them, bring them to the veterinarian for a microchip scan and any needed treatment, and determine the best way to protect them.

Your Support Means We Can Provide Unique Surgery for Charlie the Cat
While in the field helping cats displaced by the nor’easter storm flooding in Atlantic County, our Rapid Response Team spotted Charlie and brought him in for veterinary care as well.
We believe this big guy (he’s 21 pounds!) may have entropion, a condition in which the eyelids turn inward and the eyelashes rub against and irritate the eye. After a thorough exam, we began treatment with medication to keep him comfortable and out of pain.
We’re working closely with veterinarians on his treatment plan so he can thrive. Anything for Charlie!
Right now, Charlie is scheduled for entropion surgery next week. Alley Cat Allies has experience with conditions that impact a cat’s eyelids and the recovery process, and we will make sure all goes smoothly for Charlie.
No matter the surgery needed or the rescue required, Alley Cat Allies never backs down or compromises on a cat’s life and well-being. We know our supporters don’t either, and for that we are endlessly grateful!
The Heartwarming Journey of a Cat Named Journey (Juni These Days!)
Even for those of us who protect cats every day, there are those stories that stick with us most. For our team, Juni’s is definitely one of them.
Before Juni was the beautiful, healthy 4-year-old cat she is today, we knew her as Journey–and she certainly had a long journey ahead of her. We’ll never forget the frantic call to our Cat Help Desk about a tiny kitten in critical condition, or what it felt like to see Journey for the first time as she was rushed to the veterinary clinic. She was cold to the touch and was so sick with pneumonia that she could barely move.
But Alley Cat Allies has the expertise and strong network of veterinary allies to provide the care Journey needed to survive. And she didn’t just survive; she thrived. These days, Journey, now Juni, lives life to the fullest with the family who adopted her. She can often be found snuggling with her adopted brother, Loki. The two have been inseparable since they met!
We’re always so happy to receive updates on Juni and to share the impact your support makes in the lives of cats and kittens. Access to care is critical and, because of you, we can strengthen these resources and make a true difference.
Protecting Community Cats in Puerto Rico: DF’s Story
Meet DF, a community cat from San Juan, Puerto Rico. What do the initials stand for? Despite how loved he is, nobody remembers! Maybe you can offer some suggestions.
DF is about eight years old and can usually be found with his tongue sticking out every so slightly–which has become something of his signature. He’s truly an independent community cat, but he never turns down a Churu stick!
And because of your support, we could save his life. Alley Cat Allies’ San Juan Protection Team works across Puerto Rico to provide community cats and the people who care for them with access to care, including TNR, other medical care, food, and water. And for years, we’ve fought on their behalf to protect them from lethal government control.
Our hard work together means cats like DF can continue thriving in their beautiful outdoor homes (and in DF’s case, to keep enjoying his Churu treats!).
