Alley Cat Allies’ Rapid Response Team has been on the ground in Atlantic County, New Jersey, to protect cats and kittens impacted by severe coastal flooding.
A powerful nor’easter brought strong winds and heavy rain, causing high tides along the coast that flooded streets and knocked out power in some areas. A state of emergency was declared, with evacuation notices in harder-hit communities.
Our team immediately headed to the Atlantic City Boardwalk to check on the Boardwalk Cats, assess their condition, and provide them with food. All are safe and doing well.
Then, we headed out to search for affected cats in flooded areas. However, cats are savvy survivors and have deep-rooted instincts that guide them to higher ground during floods.
But cats and kittens may still need immediate aid in the coming days, and with our supporters’ help, we can provide it when it matters most. We are connected with the Humane Society of Atlantic County and veterinary clinics in the area and stand ready to provide immediate veterinary treatment, emergency boarding, and food for cats affected by the storm.
Cats may continue to emerge throughout the week, and we have established a special disaster relief grant to cover costs of their care.
