HOUSTON, TXAlley Cat Allies will hold a peaceful vigil in honor of the domestic cat killed by a Texas veterinarian in April. The vigil will be held at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas on June 25, 2015 at 8 p.m. immediately following an Alley Cat Allies workshop on humane cat care and anti-cruelty laws.

An Austin County grand jury decided yesterday not to charge Kristen Lindsey, the veterinarian who posted a picture of herself on Facebook holding a cat by an arrow through the cat’s head, and bragging about the kill. When the story broke last April, it shocked the nation and made worldwide headlines.

“This peaceful vigil will bring the community together to remember and honor the cat who was killed by a veterinarian, in direct violation of her veterinary professional oath to protect animals,” said Becky Robinson, president and founder of Alley Cat Allies. “We are appalled by the grand jury’s decision. We want to make it known that this community cares about cats, and wants to see them protected.”

Intentionally killing a cat is illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In the wake of this incident of animal cruelty, Alley Cat Allies has been hosting workshops to provide education on effective, humane care for cats as well as anti-cruelty laws in Texas.
