Senior Cat Leonardo Finds Love Again

10-year-old Leo found a new family who adores him! We couldn’t be happier for him after all he’s been through.

If you’ve been following us, you may remember Leonardo’s story. At 10 years old, everything he had ever known was upended when his owner passed away, leaving him all alone in the house. When he was finally discovered, he was brought to a shelter in Maryland.

But for Leonardo, who had known nothing but a comfortable home and love, the shelter was an extremely stressful environment. Working with our allies in Maryland, Alley Cat Allies got him out of a shelter cage and to veterinary care. There, we treated his upper respiratory infection and helped him regain his appetite; Leonardo had been refusing food.

With patience and committed care, Leonardo started eating again and got back some of his spark. However, we knew he would only truly thrive with a family, in a home where he was loved. He needed someone whose lap he could sit in for hours and just BE.

And today, we’re so happy to announce that he’s found that place—and even a new cat brother, too!

“Leonardo is doing great! I ended up adopting another cat the same day, and they have become amazing buddies,” wrote Chris, Leonardo’s adopter. He says Leonardo and his new brother, Gauldin, enjoy romping around together. “Leo is in charge of sleeping with me in bed, though. Gauldin prefers the couch.”

Sparkle and Twinkle Adopted Together and More Bonded Than Ever

There is little more rewarding than updates on our adopted cats and kittens! So when we heard from the adopter of Sparkle and Twinkle—these days they go by Billy and Bobby—it made our entire team’s day.:

We advocated hard for these brothers to be adopted into the same home. After all, they’ve always been together, supporting each other through every challenge. Both were rescued from a shelter and, it turned out, both needed unique surgery for eyelid agenesis, a congenital condition that means their eyelids were not properly formed.

Together they healed and together they thrived. Then, together, they stepped through the door of their new home. Today, we’re happy to share that Billy and Bobby are as bonded as ever!

“Billy has really come out of his shell and is a lively, rambunctious little guy, especially with Bobby at his side. They’re both so cuddly, especially at nighttime when they know we’re going to sleep,” said Billy and Bobby’s adopter.

Our Goal: Help Taco Return to His Family

We’re going to do everything we can to help Taco the cat reunite with his family.

Taco’s person came to a veterinary clinic with the tabby cat in a carrier bag, asking for help. Although he loves Taco, he felt he was not in a position to afford the costs of caring for him. An upcoming move also meant he was going somewhere that, at least for now, Taco couldn’t follow.

Alley Cat Allies is covering the costs of Taco’s examination and ongoing care, but our goal is for his stay to be temporary. We want Taco to eventually head back home with his family, and that means providing the right resources so caring for him is not such a strain.

That’s what our Cats Are Family, Too™ program is all about. By improving access to no-cost cat food and medical care, we help cats stay with the families they love. That goes for both human families in indoor homes, like Taco’s, and community cat families outdoors. In doing so, we are Keeping Families Together™.

Help More Cats Get Adopted and Find Their New Start

Black cat enthusiasts, rise up this June, AKA Adopt A Cat Month! Cosmo is still looking for a forever home where he can be loved the way he deserves.

It’s no secret that black cats too often go overlooked. But for those who know how amazing they are, bringing them home is a no-brainer!

Cosmo is such a social guy and still very young at just over a year old, so we think he’d do best in a home with another cat companion.

Meet Cosmo and all of our adoptable animals at alleycat.org/Adopt. Or help spread the word to find them the perfect families!
