Alley Cat Allies Hawai’i Flood Response is Round-the-Clock

After the worst flooding in Hawai’i in 20 years, the need remains great—including for the cats affected. Alley Cat Allies’ Rapid Response Team is on the ground in Oahu right now and providing disaster relief at all hours.

Your emergency gift today will help us deliver critical care to cats. Every gift will be 2X-matched to make double the impact at alleycat.org/HawaiiFloods.

Cats are resilient survivors, but many need urgent support in the aftermath of disasters like the floods. Our Rapid Response Team set up feeding stations to provide food and water to community cats, and we’re supporting local caregivers who are doing everything they can to care for the cats through it all.

Recovery on the island is in its earliest stages, and cats and kittens are continuing to emerge. Our team is here to ensure they don’t slip through the cracks of disaster response.

Incredible news! Ash’s Law, the first-ever comprehensive statewide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) law, passed unanimously in the Maryland House of Delegates!

Now, Ash’s Law, or House Bill 912, will be considered in the Maryland Senate. We have until the session ends on April 13 to pass this groundbreaking bill, and we’re going to fight for it every step of the way.

Alley Cat Allies drafted and named Ash’s Law as a measure to provide more protections than ever to TNR advocates and community cats throughout Maryland. If we can pass it in one state, it opens the door to pass similar laws across the U.S.!

Lakewood, Ohio, Enacts Strong TNR Ordinance

Great work, Lakewood, Ohio! This week, the city passed an ordinance (effective immediately!) to add protections for TNR, community cats, and their caregivers. Alley Cat Allies is proud to have provided our expertise and support to help shape this new legislation.

Lakewood has been successfully operating a pilot TNR program, and the new ordinance will take that important work even further. It includes language that ensures community cat caregivers are not treated as the owners of the cats (they are not; they are good Samaritans) and that community cats are treated humanely through the TNR process.

This is what our work is all about: community change that will truly save cats’ lives!

Taking on a Community Cat Feeding Ban in Swanton, Ohio

When legislation harms or threatens to harm cats and kittens, Alley Cat Allies fights for change.

Today, we reached out to the Village of Swanton, Ohio, to urge a repeal of a feeding ban against cats outdoors on its books. Recently, a local man said he was cited after admitting to police that he fed community cats behind a building he owned. He had simply been trying to care for them through a cold snap.

Earlier this week, the mayor of Swanton issued an executive order suspending the enforcement of the feeding ban. This is a good start, but the only solution is to amend the ordinance to remove the feeding ban and instead support TNR.

We’re offering our support and expertise to help the Village truly protect cats and the compassionate people who care for them.
