Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day are this Friday, October 16!
The Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day message is simple but powerful: Cats Are Community™.
All communities worldwide should have laws and resources that recognize and protect cats as the community members they are.
See that change in action in our Global Cat Day 2026 videos.
VICTORY: We Saved the Paseo del Morro Cats in Puerto Rico
This Global Cat Day, we celebrate our major victory for the cats of Puerto Rico with you!
Puerto Ricans love their cats, and their cats in turn are Puerto Ricans. Cats are intertwined in the island’s rich heritage and culture by centuries of history and also by the countless hours, days, and years residents have dedicated to their care.
But in late 2023, the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) moved to implement a plan that put a target on the backs of the community cats living on the iconic Paseo del Morro walkway leading to the El Morro fort. The scheme included allowance for lethal removal, meaning the cats faced deadly eradication.
Alley Cat Allies took a stand with a historic federal lawsuit, advocacy, and direct care for Puerto Rico’s cats.
Today, the cats of the Paseo del Morro, like Llorin and Bella, are no longer at risk of being killed.
Tempe, Arizona, Has Community Cats’ Backs
In Tempe, Arizona, a dedicated community cat and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program provides critical resources to cats and caregivers alike.
On a scorching day in Tempe, Arizona, tabby cat Guy ducked out of view behind a cactus.
Though temperatures reach well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for much of the year, Guy and community cats like him are very much at home. They snooze beneath bushes in peak daylight hours and venture out to explore as the sun sets.
Best of all, their city has their backs. Tempe’s government-funded Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the heart of its animal programming, serving thousands of community cats like Guy every year in conjunction with dedicated advocates and caregivers.
Alley Cat Allies is supporting these resources for cats in Tempe and working toward even greater change across the state of Arizona!
