Fighting for Justice for Trooper the Cat, Shot With a Dart
Trooper is still with us today because of expert veterinary care and what feels like a miracle. The kitten was found in a shopping center parking lot near a golf car store in Conover, North Carolina, on June 26 with an orange blowgun dart lodged into her side.
We believe this was a horrific act of animal cruelty. Alley Cat Allies is working with Catawba County Animal Control right now to advance the investigation into Trooper’s case.
By the time Trooper was rushed to the veterinarian on July 3, she was in critical condition. She was quickly deteriorating that evening, so we took a chance on emergency surgery to remove the dart—though in her state, it wasn’t certain she would survive.
But Trooper, true to her name, pulled through. And today, she’s making a remarkable recovery. She’s eating well and is regaining her spark. The veterinarian even said she rolled over and allowed some pets to her belly.
As Trooper heals, we are fighting for justice for her and cats across her community and beyond. We will keep you updated as we move forward.

Baby’s Story Proves Why Spaying Saves Lives
Why is spaying cats so important? Beyond other benefits, this best practice surgery prevents dangerous and even life-threatening conditions.
Baby had to be rushed to the veterinarian because of pyometra, a serious bacterial infection of the uterus. If not for swift expert treatment (which our supporters like you made possible), she would not be here today.
We reached Baby just in time, and her fighting spirit is helping her recover quickly. She has since been discharged from the hospital to heal in comfort in a foster home. And now that she’s been spayed, she won’t have to face this emergency ever again.

Felix’s Amazing Transformation
Thank you to all of our supporters who sent us name ideas on our social media pages for this brave kitten! We decided to go with a suggestion we thought was especially fitting.
Without further ado, meet… Felix!
The name Felix means “happy” and “fortunate,” and we think that suits him perfectly! Because of supporters like you, we could provide Felix with expert medical care when he needed it most. As you can see, his upper respiratory infection has been cleared, he’s gained healthy weight, and he’s growing into a gorgeous and sleek young cat.
Inspiring the Cat Advocates of Tomorrow
It’s not just about the here and now: We’re inspiring the cat advocates of tomorrow, too.
One of our team members had the opportunity to work with Hunter, a budding young advocate, and show him the ropes of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). An important step in a successful trapping effort is identifying where community cats spend the most time and are most likely to enter the trap. Luckily, Hunter had been watching the cats and knew just where to go.
We have a future cat expert on our hands! And thanks to Hunter’s help, Cloud was spayed, vaccinated, eartipped, and returned.

An Update on Shay the Kitten and Her Firefighter Rescuer
You may remember Shay, who was rescued along with her siblings from a police station rooftop. After Alley Cat Allies coordinated the rescue and medical care, Shay was soon adopted…by the very same firefighter who climbed up and saved her!
Recently, months after her adoption, Mike—the firefighter—sent us an update on Shay. She goes by Brownie now and is all grown up! She spends carefree days enjoying meals, playing, and napping.
“Brownie is a sweet girl and always waiting for her Dad Mike to play with her and pet her. We’re so glad we adopted beautiful, sweet Brownie. She makes our lives so happy,” says Mike.
