Providing Critical Care to Cats During Los Angeles Fires
In response to the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hughes Fire, and other wildfires in the Los Angeles area, Alley Cat Allies saved cats’ lives by assisting with rescue from burn and evacuation zones, providing comprehensive emergency veterinary care, and bringing in critical supplies from cat food to animal oxygen masks.
Our Rapid Response Team has been active in Los Angeles since January 8, including working extensively on the ground in the impact area, and will strategize further lifesaving efforts for cats and kittens as needed.

Cats and kittens evacuated from the fires continue to receive veterinary care covered by Alley Cat Allies. As fire recovery gets underway in impacted areas, we will keep a careful eye on the situation to protect more cats.

The Alley Cat Allies Rapid Response Team is
coordinating even more emergency care for cats and kittens impacted by the fires. The cats we’ve rescued with local organizations, like Cutie, are recovering in foster homes and are being monitored and treated.
The cats currently receiving our care have been scanned for microchips, have families and caregivers who are aware that they were rescued, and are not missing or lost. We will make all reunion efforts for any cats we help in the future who we believe were separated from their families.

A Mother and Her Kittens, and More, Receive Emergency Care

Today was another full day of rescue and emergency care. The Alley Cat Allies Rapid Response Team helped ensure more cats rushed from the burn and evacuation zones of the Palisades fire received a veterinary examination and treatment at Palms & Paws Veterinary Center in Santa Monica. All of the cats will be carefully watched for signs of smoke inhalation damage and we’ll cover any treatment they may need moving forward.
From the Field: An Update on Our Fire Response
January 12, 2025
We’ve been at work day and night on the ground saving cats and kittens impacted by the fires. At around 2 a.m. today, we were on the scene with local organizations to rescue cats as evacuations from the Palisades Fire occurred.
Our Rapid Response Team rushed three cats to emergency veterinary care and is coordinating comprehensive examination and treatment for 10 cats right now, with more to come. We will keep you updated.
Our Rapid Response Team Heads into the Burn Zone

Right now, Alley Cat Allies is on the ground in the Los Angeles area providing emergency care and support to cats and kittens impacted by the fires.
As of Friday afternoon, our Rapid Response Team is heading into a burn zone to search for cats who need immediate aid. We have connected with advocates, including San Diego nonprofit organization Femme Felines, and veterinarians actively helping animals and we are covering the costs of treatment and boarding for injured or displaced cats.
