Mayor Josh Miller
Ravenswood City Council
1 Wall Street
Ravenswood, WV 26164
Dear Mayor Miller and Members of City Council:
I write to you after learning of a dangerous ordinance on your City Council meeting agenda for Tuesday, June seventh. We have reviewed both the proposed ordinance (first reading at the May 17th City Council meeting) and your May 24th Facebook post. If you and the City Council pass this proposed cruel and inhumane ordinance, cats and kittens will suffer and die. Given the proposed language, this ordinance could violate your constituents’ rights and be subject to legal challenges on constitutional grounds.
Clearly, the “Amended Ordinance Regarding Animals In The City” cannot move forward. I am offering for Alley Cat Allies and stakeholders including Operation Fancy Free to work with Ravenswood in order to design a humane evidence-based policy and program that will deliver long-term success.
I am president and founder of Alley Cat Allies the global leader and expert in creating and implementing comprehensive and effective programs that address the needs of cats and residents. We have worked with communities large and small across the country and around the world.
We are now offering our expertise to you. Alley Cat Allies has promoted evidence-based policies since our founding in 1990 and regularly advises individuals, nonprofit groups, local governments, and state policy officials. Our techniques have proven to reduce calls from concerned residents to the city while allowing cats to co-exist harmoniously in neighborhoods.
Please call me by Monday, June 6th, 10 a.m. so I can report that you have removed the ordinance from your agenda and will meet with us.
Sincerely,
Becky Robinson
