Give to Support our Disaster Response for Cats

When the worst flooding in Hawaii in 20 years swept through Oahu, Alley Cat Allies’ Rapid Response Team hit the ground running to save cats’ lives. Though cats are resilient survivors, many need urgent support in the aftermath of disasters of this scale.

Our team spent days in action at all hours in Oahu’s hard-hit North Shore, providing food and water to flood-affected cats and their caregivers.

And when cats were rescued from flood zones and needed emergency veterinary care, Alley Cat Allies worked closely with veterinarians to cover all costs of their treatment. To protect even more impacted animals, we also delivered supplies to local veterinary clinics, including carriers, blankets, food, and flea medication.

Your support for our Hawaii flood response made it all possible. These are the stories of just two of the cats your support helped save:

Lieutenant Dan

7-year-old Lieutenant Dan survived the historic flooding in Oahu, but unfortunately suffered a laceration injury around his tail. He’s a well-known and beloved cat in his neighborhood, and the moment one of his caregivers saw him, they rushed him to North Shore Veterinary Clinic.

Alley Cat Allies is covering the costs of Lieutenant Dan’s wound treatment and any other care he may need. Despite everything, he’s doing very well! His wound is stitched, and he’s in no pain since he’s on the right medication. Better yet: his community was more than eager to bring him home.

This week, the same caregiver who brought him to the clinic came back to take him home! He’ll finish his recovery and rehabilitation in her care until he’s back on his paws. Lieutenant Dan has so many people who care about and for him, and all are relieved and grateful to see him safe.

Pumpkin

As our Rapid Response Team was prepared to leave the veterinary clinic after checking on Lieutenant Dan, a resident of Oahu hurried in with another injured cat. When the orange tabby, Pumpkin, carefully poked her head out of her carrier, the painful wound on her ear was immediately apparent.

Pumpkin was discovered in a previously flooded zone and, when a bowl of food was set down, refused to eat. The high stress of surviving the flood and her wound had likely suppressed her appetite.

But our team, and the veterinarians, knew Pumpkin had a long and happy life ahead of her with the right treatment. She’s also a very sweet and social cat, and though she did not have a microchip, it’s possible she was displaced or abandoned.

Pumpkin will be treated and fostered until she is healed, and Alley Cat Allies is covering the costs of her wound care. We have high hopes for her bright future—and it’s all thanks to supporters like you.
