Connecticut’s animal shelters are on the verge of important humane change. Thanks in part to Alley Cat Allies’ supporters, a bill to require all Connecticut shelters to register with the state is now eligible for Governor Dannel Malloy’s desk. All that is left is for Governor Malloy to sign House Bill 6334 into law.

Under H.B. 6334, all Connecticut animal shelters must register with the Commissioner of Agriculture. Registration allows the state to inspect shelters to ensure they are following proper regulations for sanitation, disease, humane treatment of dogs and cats, and public safety protection. Any shelter not doing its job correctly could have its registration suspended or taken away.
Animal shelters provide an integral service for animals and citizens. That means they should be held to the highest possible standards. If HB 6334 passes, it will be a big step toward increasing shelter oversight in Connecticut and improving the treatment of shelter animals.

If you live in Connecticut, contact your Governor today and tell him to sign the bill into law.
