In today’s world, access to care for cats and kittens can feel out of reach for so many. As part of our mission, Alley Cat Allies is committed to improving lifesaving veterinary resources for cats whether they live outdoors or indoors, including working with veterinarians in communities across the United States and beyond to provide critical treatment when it is most impactful and needed.
This direct care work is especially needed in communities still reeling from natural disasters—like in Duluth, Georgia, where the family of Mew, Rowdy, and Ceviche struggled to afford the cats’ complex care while still contending with flood damage to their home during Hurricane Helene.
Rowdy needed emergency surgery as well as screening, bloodwork, pain management, and other treatments this week. Ceviche, who came in to be spayed, was discovered to have swollen lymph nodes and anemia. Mew just needed neuter surgery and vaccination, but along with the other complications, even that was a tall order financially.
Alley Cat Allies covered the costs of all three cats’ treatment, which was conducted at Community Cat Clinic in Duluth. It’s all part of our Cats Are Family TooTM program, which supports veterinary, food, and other vital resources for cats to ensure their families and caregivers have the means to continue to care for them.
And since our Rapid Response Team was on the ground in the wake of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton to save cats’ lives late last year, we know well the extent of its devastation and how long the road to recovery spans. We’re proud to continue our disaster response by helping out the people who were impacted and the cats they love.
Cats and other animals are important and irreplaceable members of the family, and it’s critical to keep families together through the best and worst of times. Nobody should have to feel as if they can’t provide their cat family members with the care they urgently require, but the cost of unexpected health conditions can be overwhelming.
That is why our work—made possible by our donors and supporters—is so greatly needed. It makes a lifesaving difference for the cats, brings incredible relief to their family members and caregivers, and brings us closer to a world where all cats are valued and protected, and every community has the right resources to help.
Thank you for helping us save cats like Mew, Ceviche, and Rowdy every single day! We have big plans to reach even more cats and kittens with access to care in 2025. Your gift makes it all happen.
