With Arctic blast conditions extending through the week in many parts of the country, our Rapid Response Team continues to bring supplies, medical care, and other support to impacted cats.
Some communities are bracing for another wave of snowfall and ice, and we stand ready to provide even more on-the-ground relief.
Your donation now supports our urgent Arctic blast response.
Saving Cashew and Nutmeg Just in Time for the Storm
Just in time to protect them from the severe cold weather, our team rushed Nutmeg and Cashew to emergency veterinary care in Maryland. We have strong reason to believe both were abandoned, and in their fragile condition, there is little chance they would have survived the arctic blast.
Alley Cat Allies is covering all costs of their veterinary care for severe upper respiratory infections and any other treatment they need.
An enormous thank you to our supporters for helping us save Cashew and Nutmeg at the most critical time. Despite all they’ve been through, both are relaxed and very sweet. We’ll keep you updated on their progress as they heal.
An Update on the Boardwalk Cats During the Arctic Blast
We’re continuing to check on the Boardwalk Cats through the snow and ice of the Arctic blast. And, we wanted to let you know they’re doing well!
These community cats are strong, healthy, and well-adapted to living outdoors. They have insulated outdoor shelters to curl up in and plenty of nutritious food to conserve energy and stay warm. Our team makes sure of that every single day, snow or shine. Your support provides for their care, and for that, we thank you deeply.
Most of the cats are tucked away safely in their shelters. But some, like Olive and Buster, come out to investigate!
How to Help Community Cats Through the Arctic Blast Conditions
As snow and ice blanket much of the country, we’re sharing critical information about how to help community cats outdoors. Community cats are adapted to outdoor living in all kinds of climates, but advocates can always lend a helping hand in more severe weather:
- If you can, check on cats’ outdoor shelters and clear entrances of any snow. Please do NOT use antifreeze, salt, or chemicals.
- Provide plenty of wet food in heated bowls or in deep, wide bowls to prevent freezing. More calories make it easier for cats to stay warm!
- Make sure the cats have a source of unfrozen water using the same techniques above.
- Keep track of the community cats in your care over the next days. They are likely hidden in warm, safe areas and will emerge after the worst of the cold.
