Twinkle and Sparkle Can See Clearly Now, the Pain is Gone

We are proud to share a happy update on the story of Twinkle and Sparkle—and perhaps make you aware of a lesser-known medical condition for cats.

After rescuing Twinkle and Sparkle, who are brothers, from dangerous shelter conditions, Alley Cat Allies worked with our veterinary allies to treat them for severe upper respiratory infections. At first, we thought their squinting and crusted eyes were symptoms of their URIs. But after closer examination, we diagnosed the real culprit: eyelid agenesis.

Cats born with eyelid agenesis have only partially formed eyelids, so their eyelashes and fur are constantly rubbing directly into their eyes. It’s a painful condition that can cause permanent eye damage, and Sparkle and Twinkle were living with it every day until we stepped in.

To correct the issue, we funded cryosurgery for both brothers—a procedure that froze and removed the hair follicles around their eyes that were causing them problems. With this technique, the hair won’t grow back, so the kittens can finally be comfortable and pain-free!

Despite everything they’ve been through, Sparkle and Twinkle are such sweet and gentle kittens. Now they’re healing nicely and, since they’re no longer in constant pain, they’re finally able to romp and play as all kittens should!

YOU are the reason Alley Cat Allies can provide access to care, including unique surgeries, for cats and kittens who urgently need us. On behalf of Sparkle and Twinkle and many more, thank you!

An Update On Cashew After the Arctic Blast

Now this is a heartwarming transformation! Thank you for helping us save Cashew’s life just in time before the severe cold of the Arctic blast last week. He’s not fully recovered yet, but he’s getting stronger every day in our care.

An Incredible Before and After: Alfred’s Story

We may have missed Tuxedo Cat Appreciation Day, but we still want to take time to appreciate Alfred and his amazing recovery!

Because the reality is, Alfred’s story almost ended before it really began. As a tiny kitten, he was slated for death in a shelter simply because he was too ill, and too young. But thanks to your support, we could rescue Alfred just in time and give him the happy future he deserves.

Working with our veterinary allies, we immediately connected Alfred with lifesaving care. At such a young age, he was already emaciated and battling a severe upper respiratory infection, among other medical challenges. Through antibiotics and long-term supportive care (and a lot of love!), Alfred gained the strength to fight his way back from the brink. Alley Cat Allies covered all costs of his treatment.

Today, you can hardly tell he’s the same kitten (just look at the before and after)! He’s fully recovered and, best of all, he’s been adopted. We’re looking forward to update photos from his new family.

Adopt Me: Meet Rio and Remy

These bonded siblings have been through so much together, and they’re ready to find a loving place to call home.

When Remy and Rio were not even 2 months old, they were shoved into a basket and cruelly abandoned. As we always do in cases of cruelty, Alley Cat Allies took immediate action, rushing Rio and Remy to the veterinarian for urgent treatment. Thankfully, they weren’t suffering from any serious illness or injury, but they were, understandably, very nervous.

Our team took on their care, making sure they hit every growth milestone and helping them overcome their fear and show their sweet personalities. Now, we’re looking for the right family to adopt them. Because Remy and Rio are extremely bonded, we’re seeking a home where they can stay together forever!
