As you can see, Cherry in particular has come a long way from the tiny kitten rescued from a shelter with an eye infection. Weeks of round-the-clock veterinary care later, this beautiful little calico is all healed up, clear-eyed, and ready to find a forever home.

Mother cats provide instinctive care that even the savviest kitten caretaker can’t quite match. Well-meaning people may want to scoop up kittens to bring them to animal shelters, but doing so places kittens’ lives at high risk.
Let mom raise her kittens, whether in her indoor or outdoor home. And when the whole family is ready, spay or neuter all!
Celebrating Super Mother Cat Ethel
@alleycatallies Ethel is a true super mom cat! By taking on the costs of medical care for 91 cats rescued from an Alabama property, we’re providing support for multiple young kittens and mothers who were pregnant or had recently given birth. Some of these moms simply weren’t producing the milk their kittens needed, and though they are being bottle-fed, nothing replaces a mother cat’s instinctive care. But Ethel, a very experienced mother cat, stepped up. She was still producing milk, and when she heard restless kittens mewing, she immediately began to trill and cry for them. A few kittens were placed with her and, though they weren’t her own, she took them in without hesitation, content and purring. And since she’s been spayed, this litter will truly be her last! We couldn’t be more inspired by Ethel, or by our amazing donors and supporters who help us provide cats with access to care, even in challenging emergency situations. We continue to be amazed by Ethel! She stepped up when she was needed most to care for young kittens who were not her own.
When we provided emergency veterinary treatment for many of the 91 cats and kittens rescued from a cramped Alabama property, we were particularly concerned about the neonatal kittens. There were many, and some were going without milk.
That’s where Ethel, an experienced mother cat who was still lactating, took the lead. She didn’t hesitate!
Cats Form Strong Friendships, Too
