With an arctic blast about to impact large swathes of the United States, Alley Cat Allies has been out on the ground in multiple states to ensure community cats are prepared for severe winter conditions.

Winter storm warnings are active across the country, so our Rapid Response Team is moving fast to assist advocates in emergency preparation.

Your gift right now will support our rapid arctic blast response to protect cats and kittens. And thanks to donors dedicated to our disaster work, every emergency gift will be 2x-MATCHED through January 24.

Our Team is On the Ground to Protect Cats Now

Community cats are resilient and well-adjusted to living outdoors, and they thrive in all varieties of climates. However, during record low temperatures, stepping in to lend a hand helps cats outdoors weather the cold and stay safe, healthy, and comfortable.

From Ohio to Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Texas, and beyond, our team members are distributing supplies like heated outdoor cat shelters, cat food, and straw to advocates so they can also prepare their colonies before the worst of the storms.

We’ve also been on the ground building outdoor cat shelters and fortifying them with straw—including for the beloved Boardwalk Cats in Atlantic County. Straw is a best practice insulator, keeping heat inside shelters and giving cats a comfortable nest to burrow in.

To help cats conserve energy and stay warm, we’re providing extra portions of wet food and ensuring caregivers have the resources to do the same. Mixing in some kitten food, which is more calorie-dense, is especially helpful during severe cold.

Because of our swift action, cats like Nemo and Star will have safe, comfortable shelters and extra nutrition so they are warm and safe through the snow and cold. Our team will continue to monitor conditions and support cats throughout the arctic blast.

Alley Cat Allies is also working closely with our network of veterinarians. We stand ready to fund emergency supplies and medical care so cats recovering in clinics—like King Arthur—are safe. We are prepared to cover the costs of treatment for any cats who are impacted by storms.

Our Rapid Response Team is monitoring conditions and staying in contact with advocates to assess need and strategize further aid.
