The Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill (SB 216) has been reported favorably out of the House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development. Now it will go on to the House of Representatives, where it will be put to a final vote.

Louisiana Residents: Make your voice heard again and ask your representatives to pass the Louisiana Shelter Registration Bill.

The bill would encourage shelters to voluntarily register with the Louisiana Animal Welfare Commission and provide important shelter information like intake numbers and outcomes to the public. Although SB 216 would be more effective if it was mandatory, it is a step in the right direction. If the bill passes, you will have a better chance to learn what happens to cats in your sheltersand better work to protect them.
