A 79-year-old woman in Garfield Heights, Ohio has been sentenced jail time for feeding stray cats in her community.

Punishing people like Nancy S. for helping cats is a miscarriage of justice. When community cat caregivers feed cats, it is a compassionate act. These good Samaritans not only help cats, they are often providing a valuable service to their communities. Instead of charging community cat caregivers, local governments should embrace the humane and effective approach to community cat populations: Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).

As the cats’ leading advocate, we support the compassion of community cat caregivers, including Nancy S.
