Volunteers for Nonprofits May Be Able to Deduct Cat Care Related Expenses on Their Taxes

Community cat caregivers had a great success in June 2011–thanks to a caregiver who challenged IRS rules to allow her caregiver expenses to be tax-deductible. But how does this ruling apply to you? Can you also deduct your out-of-pocket community cat care expenses as charitable contributions?

The good news is you absolutely can—as long as the expenses are from your work as a volunteer for a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, you were not reimbursed for those expenses, and you have the right documentation.
