We Spent Labor Day Weekend with the Community Cats of Puerto Rico

Our San Juan Cat Protection Team was back on the ground in Puerto Rico over the Labor Day weekend!

While Alley Cat Allies works year-round to protect the community cats of San Juan, no matter where we are, there’s something special about walking alongside them on the famous bayside walkway, Paseo del Morro.

If you’ve been following us, you know this historic path and the cats who call it home are central to our ongoing federal lawsuit against the U.S. National Park Service (NPS). We are continuing our fight to stop the NPS’ lethal plan to remove community cats from the Paseo.

Thank you to all of our supporters who make our work to protect the community cats of San Juan possible. From spending time with the cats on the ground, to closely coordinating with local advocates, to fighting in court on their behalf, we’re doing it all to save their lives.

Rooftop Rescue Kitten Goes Home with the Firefighter who Brought Her Down

Shay is officially going home with her rescuer!

The kittens we helped rescue from a police station rooftop are getting their happy endings, one by one. Mike, the firefighter who climbed up to bring them down, told us he hoped to adopt one of the kittens. And now that they’ve had time to recuperate at one of our ally organizations, today is the day!

We’re so happy for Shay and Mike, and we’re thrilled to see this story come full circle. The rest of the kittens will be heading to forever homes soon, too!

It’s Official: Declawing is Banned in Rhode Island

Passed back in June—after our supporters like you raised your voices—Rhode Island’s declaw ban bill took effect yesterday, September 1.

We took a stand, and it made a lifesaving difference. Now, cats throughout Rhode Island no longer have to suffer the cruel, unnecessary practice that is declawing!

Thank you to all who took action with us. The fight to end declawing everywhere continues, but let’s celebrate this incredible achievement.

Frosty is Feeling Better—And Looking for a Forever Home!

Oh, how far Frosty has come!

You might remember this handsome face if you’ve been following us, but Frosty is far from the cat he used to be. When we met him, this 10-year-old senior had developed a condition that left him unsteady on his feet and very lethargic. For a long time, our veterinary allies worried he might have a neurological issue.

But with dedicated expert care, Frosty made an incredible recovery—especially for a cat in his golden years. We think the difference in his face now versus before says it all, don’t you?

And now, we’re happy to say he’s ready to find a home of his own!

Frosty wants to take it easy, and he wants to do it with people who love him. His favorite place in the world is a warm lap. He never wants to be far from you—even while he eats (he likes the company)!
