CANTON, OHIO – In a single impactful day, 169 cats in the Akron-Canton, Ohio, area were spayed or neutered through an Alley Cat Allies Feline Frenzy® event on September 11. Alley Cat Allies, the leader of the global movement to protect cats and kittens, was on the ground acting with advocates and collaborating with AlterClinic Animal Care to bring critical Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) support to the community, where there is a great need for accessible resources for cats.
“Through Feline Frenzy, Alley Cat Allies is working closely with local advocates to help cats here and now with veterinary care at no cost to the community. But we are also investing in community outreach and education that will have an even greater impact into the future,” said DanaMarie Pannella, director of law and policy at Alley Cat Allies. “Today, we’re setting the groundwork to save many more cats’ lives.”
Alley Cat Allies team members were in the field from start to finish, leading the effort to trap community cats and bring them to its Feline Frenzy event to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, eartipped, microchipped, and receive any other necessary care. Alley Cat Allies funded all care, which was provided in conjunction with AlterClinic.
Cats and kittens like Cindy, Tiffany, and Kyle are now safely back in their outdoor homes, fully vaccinated and no longer contending with the stresses of mating and pregnancy. Come spring of 2026, the start of kitten season, this will have a lifesaving impact in the Akron-Canton community.
Additionally, each caregiver who brought cats to the event received Alley Cat Allies’ educational resources, wet cat food, and more support to help them protect the cats who are their community members.
Recognizing the significant need in the area, Alley Cat Allies will continue to work in close collaboration with Akron-Canton advocates to reach more community cats and provide no-cost resources. Additional high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter and TNR events are slated for the coming weeks.
