Alley Cat Allies is Working to Help Cats Amid Historic Smokehouse Creek Fire

Right now, we’re organizing rapidly to save and protect cats and kittens affected by the Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas panhandle—the largest in the state’s history and among the largest in U.S. history.

Alley Cat Allies will be taking action to provide food, veterinary care, and other supplies for cat victims of the disaster. We’ve been told by our contacts on the ground that we’re the first to offer them support for companion animals. The situation is still very volatile, and we’ll keep you updated on our efforts.

An Update on Lifesaving Work in Puerto Rico

Alley Cat Allies is still hard at work defending the cats of Puerto Rico, particularly the community cats living along the famous Paseo del Morro. If you’ve been following the story, you know that these cats are threatened with removal from their outdoor homes.

We’ve raised our concerns directly to the federal government through a legal letter, and we’re continuing to pursue work with the local government and organizations on the island to protect and improve cats’ lives.

Reina is Officially Up For Adoption

After winning her battle against a debilitating illness (thanks to veterinary care YOUR support made possible!) Reina is now healed, healthy, and ready to find her forever home!

Despite all she’s been through, Reina is the absolute sweetest. She’s a big purr-er and loves to knead with her dainty little paws. She’s around 3 years old, and has a whole wonderful life ahead of her to share with you!

What To Do if You Suspect a Cat Has Been Poisoned

We’ve encountered multiple cases of cats being purposefully poisoned in their neighborhood. If you suspect a cat has been poisoned, IMMEDIATELY call your veterinarian, the nearest animal hospital, or the Pet Poison Helpline. The sooner a cat is diagnosed, the more effective her treatment will be.

Kittens Abandoned in a Box in Winter are on to Greater Things

In January, this litter of young kittens was found abandoned on the side of the road in a crate during a bitter cold snap. Our grant to Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue covered the costs of their care–and we can’t believe how big they are now!

We asked our supporters to help us out with name ideas back then! So without further ado, meet Julius, Clementine, Crème, Tangerine, and Zest!
