Since the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) announced a cruel plan to remove and kill community cats on San Juan’s famous Paseo del Morro, Alley Cat Allies... Protecting Puerto Rico’s Community Cats Alley Cat Allies will never back down when cats face cruelty, whether from an individual or a government entity. After our historic federal lawsuit halted its cruel and deadly removal plan, the NPS pivoted to a new scheme in December 2025. Under the guise of a construction project, the agency is denying caregivers access to large portions of the Paseo del Morro, where many of the cats’ feeding stations are located. Because the cats have long relied on food, water, and other care provided by caregivers, the motive seems clear: if the NPS can’t remove the cats, it’ll starve them out instead. This is a violation of several animal cruelty laws, and we won’t stand idly by. Alley Cat Allies is pursuing the issue as an emergency and filed a new lawsuit seeking an injunction and temporary restraining order against the NPS. With your support, we’re showing the world that a government cannot treat cats’ lives as disposable and go unchallenged. Filed a historic federal lawsuit to stop the NPS.
