Smithsonian-Funded Junk Science Gets Cats Killed
The basic premise of research published in the online journal Nature Communications and funded by the Smithsonian and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (“The impact of free-ranging domestic cats on wildlife of the United States,” January 29, 2013) is that no cats should be allowed outdoors. And so a very real outcome of the research could be more cats rounded up and taken to animal shelters, where 7 out of 10 are killed. Millions of cats are killed each year in our nation’s animal pound and shelter system.
