BETHESDA, MD - Alley Cat Allies (ACA) and Best Friends Veterinary Hospital in Mays Landing, NJ will host a weekend Feline Frenzy spay/neuter clinic for stray and feral cats in Atlantic City, NJ, June 9-11. More than 50 volunteers will humanely trap and transport up to 100 cats to be sterilized and vaccinated. Feline Frenzy is part of ACA’s highly successful project in Atlantic City to care for the cats that
historically have made their home under the Boardwalk.

WASHINGTON, DC – The ASPCA and Fresh Step® litter have awarded Alley Cat Allies, the national clearinghouse for information about stray and feral cats, an ASPCA/Fresh Step® Safe Steps Home grant for $15,000. The grant will enable ACA to educate animal control officers about effective and humane control of feral cat populations, specifically training them in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) strategies. Judge Rules on Florida FWC’s Policy on Cats -- Decision Means TNR Programs in Florida Can Continue 9/4/2003
WASHINGTON, DC - Administrative Law Judge David M. Maloney last Friday dismissed a case filed by Alley Cat Allies challenging the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) “Policy on Impacts of Domestic Cats on Native Wildlife.” However, in his ruling, the judge made it clear that unless and until the commission formally adopts a rule to manage cat populations, the policy adopted by the FWC is simply a policy without the force of law.

US Navy’s Two-Edged Sword: Kill More Cats and Spend More Money 10/17/02
WASHINGTON, DC - On January 1, 2003, the United States Navy intends to implement a policy to trap and remove feral cats from Navy property. This policy, approved by the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Vern Clark, amounts to a death sentence for feral cats and adds an unnecessary expense to the Navy’s budget.

WASHINGTON, DC - On January 10, 2002, Admiral Vern Clark, Chief of Naval Operations, approved a new “Policy Letter Preventing Feral Cat and Dog Populations on Navy Property” that expressly prohibits feeding feral animals and/or implementing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)* programs for feral cats on all Navy property. The new policy also requires “humane capture and removal of free roaming cats and dogs…no later than 1 January 2003.” Because feral (wild) cats are
not considered by animal shelters to be adoptable, these animals face certain death.
