Cat Advocates Call for Suspension of Smithsonian Researcher
Suspend Smithsonian Researcher

Last month, a researcher at the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center was charged with attempted animal cruelty for allegedly trying to poison feral cats in her Washington, DC, neighborhood—just a few blocks from where Alley Cat Allies got our start doing Trap-Neuter-Return more than 20 years ago. Over 10,000 people signed our petition calling for her suspension from her work at the National Zoological Park, which includes research with cats. Together, we sent the message that it is unacceptable for anyone accused of cruelty to remain an active employee at a facility that cares for animals. Although the Zoo has assured us that steps have been taken to ensure all animals’ safety, she remains an active staff member and we continue to call for her suspension.

Adoptable Cat: Brush Up on Fun with Felicia
Adoptable Cat - Felicia

Although she may be shy at first, don’t be fooled by this little lady—you’ll make a friend forever when you brush her solid black coat. This four-year-old purring machine adores grooming and attention, even rolling over for belly scratches. A loving girl, Felicia gets along well with other cats and is in need of a new home after her owner passed away. Have you been combing the listings for a cat like Felicia?

UPDATE: Help Us Assist Cats and Caregivers in Disaster Areas
Disaster Response

When devastating tornadoes destroyed cats’ outdoor homes in Alabama, Alley Cat Allies stepped in to help them find new locations or reunite them with their caregivers. We’re still trying to find new homes on farms or other suitable outdoor properties for the remaining cats, who are currently being held by caring shelters and volunteers. We are also in touch with organizations in the tornado-devastated areas of Joplin, Missouri, and Springfield, Massachusetts, to make sure caregivers are supplied with everything they need to keep caring for cats in their colonies. If you can help the Alabama cats find their caregivers or new homes, or if you know someone in Missouri or Massachusetts who needs help with their cats, contact Laura at or call 866-271-5534.
Help us continue to provide for cats in areas affected by disaster—donate today.

Show You Care—Be Prepared
Be Prepared for Disasters

Over the last two months, we’ve had all hands on deck responding to disaster situations in Alabama, Missouri, and Massachusetts. No one can stop natural disasters from happening, but you can keep a bad situation from getting worse by preparing an emergency plan to care for your animals or come to the aid of others. Follow our tips to make sure you, your family, and the animals you care about are equipped for emergencies.
