ALLEY CAT ALLIES SUPPORTS FERAL CAT CAREGIVERS AFFECTED BY ALABAMA TORNADOS
BETHESDA, MD — Alley Cat Allies, the nation’s advocate for stray and feral cats, today announced a coordinated effort to assist local Trap-Neuter-Return groups and animal shelters in their efforts to help residents in areas affected by the devastating tornadoes in Alabama.
Alley Cat Allies has donated humane box traps, cat carriers, and other supplies to aid in cat recovery and care to MomaKat Rescue in Birmingham, Alabama and Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.
“We are asking local feral cat caregivers to contact us at alleycat@alleycat.org or 240-482-1980 ext. 330 if they need supplies or financial assistance for rebuilding their colonies or for veterinary care of injured cats,” said Becky Robinson, President of Alley Cat Allies. “We want to make sure the people on the ground are getting what they need to save these animals’ lives.”
“It’s one of the worst situations I have seen since hurricane Katrina. I’ve had calls from people taking care of feral cats and they are having a hard time getting through to the devastated areas because of restrictions set by local authorities,” said Tina Fitzpatrick, Founder of MomaKat Rescue.
MomaKat Rescue and Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter are in dire need of volunteers; please contact them directly to see how you can help. Supplies that may be donated directly to the two organizations are (contact information below):
- Gently used or new large towels/sheets to be used as trap covers
- Cat food – wet and dry
- Metal food and water dishes
- Humane box traps
- Large cat carriers (large enough to hold a small litter pan and serve as temporary housing)
- Cat shelters
- Other animal care supplies
