Alley Cat Allies and Washington Humane Society to Launch Critically Needed Spay & Neuter Center
Washington, DC – Alley Cat Allies and Washington Humane Society have formed a partnership to launch the region’s first low-cost spay/neuter center to serve the entire DC metropolitan area.
The new facility – National Capital Area Spay & Neuter Center – will be able to provide the sterilization services for at least 75 animals a day.
The spay/neuter center will play a crucial role in sterilizing and therefore controlling the reproduction of stray and feral cats through Trap-Neuter-Return, according to Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies. To improve their lives, stray and feral cats will be safely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped and then healthy cats will be returned to their outdoor homes.
“Alley Cat Allies is proud to be a founding partner of the new center because of its strong commitment to saving animals’ lives,” Robinson said. “We know the clinic will provide services that area residents can afford and for area animal shelters with veterinary services for animals before they are adopted. It is not only needed but extremely welcome in an area with few low-cost sterilization options.”
The clinic, whose official opening is currently scheduled for October, will be located on Capitol Hill at 1001 L Street, SE.
