AS TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN GAINS MOMENTUM NATIONWIDE, SO DO CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Alley Cat Allies announces numerous job openings as national nonprofit
BETHESDA, MD – As times change so do some careers. Titles like ‘travel agent’ and ‘video store clerk’ are on the decline, but in animal services exciting new careers are emerging.
Thousands of communities across the country are carrying out Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs—and in recent years animal shelters have started creating new positions dedicated to their TNR programs. In the last decade, cities and counties that officially endorse TNR has increased tenfold to more than 430.
“It can be hard to find someone at a shelter with more than three years of experience as a Community Cat Coordinator,” said Becky Robinson, president and founder of Alley Cat Allies. “The job didn’t really exist. Trap-Neuter-Return was something people did in their free time and as volunteers, but we’re seeing more and more shelters hiring staff to manage their city’s TNR efforts and in some cases to carry out TNR themselves.”
With these developments at a local level, demands on national nonprofit Alley Cat Allies have increased as well. “The movement to protect cats has grown tremendously—and with it, our need for compassionate, committed staff,” said Robinson.
Alley Cat Allies, the only national advocacy organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats, is looking for qualified applicants for a number of open full-time positions at its Bethesda, Md. headquarters.
Among the positions currently open at Alley Cat Allies:
- Director of Communications
- Director of Development
- Program Manager
- Fundraising Copywriter
- Human Resources Manager
- Media Relations Specialist
- Web Producer
Alley Cat Allies seeks hardworking and dedicated individuals who support, understand and want to contribute to the philanthropic mission of Alley Cat Allies—to end the “euthanasia”(i.e., killing) of cats nationwide, and foster the continued prominence of Trap-Neuter-Return, the only humane and effective approach to cats in our communities.
Alley Cat Allies offers competitive salaries and benefits—including generous health insurance and paid leave plans, and the opportunity to pass the workday alongside a number of official Alley Cat Allies “office cats.”
