October Edition

Thanks to the support of loyal donors like you, we've been very busy this month protecting cats around the country. Here are just a few of our current projects and successes:

You Met Our National Feral Cat Day Challenge!
National Feral Cat Day

With a few days left to go, Alley Cat Allies has already soared past our goal of 250 events, one in every state, for National Feral Cat Day 2011. In fact, more than 300 events have been registered across the country! We’re so excited to celebrate the biggest National Feral Cat Day ever this weekend. Thank you to all of our event hosts who answered our challenge to show Compassion for Cats: Coast to Coast and registered events in their communities. If you’re not hosting an event, you can still participate by attending one in your area.

Adoptable Cat: Treat Amber to a Happy Home
Adoptable Cat: Amber

Gorgeous solid black one-and-a-half year-old Amber is looking for a home. She is all treats, no tricks—unless you’re a toy mouse, in which case, look out! Before our Atlantic City program coordinator took Amber in and had her spayed, Amber also had a litter of kittens, four of whom are still looking for homes. Can this beautiful black cat or her kittens come happily haunt your house?

Representing Feral Cats at the No More Homeless Pets Conference
Becky Robinson

We’re representing the movement for cats’ humane care at the Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Conference in Las Vegas on October 21-23. Our president, Becky Robinson, will be speaking about her experiences founding Alley Cat Allies on the “Founders of Change: Pioneers of the No-Kill Movement” panel. Attendees can also find us in the exhibition hall handing out free materials about TNR and humane care for cats. If you plan on attending, keep an eye on our Twitter page for a special conference giveaway!

Alley Cat Allies has more than 20,000 people who “like” us on Facebook and more than 4,000 Twitter followers. Join our social media community to see what everybody’s talking about! Social media is the best way to get up-to-the-minute information on our activities, campaigns, and events. On Sunday, for example, we’ll be live tweeting from our headquarters in honor of National Feral Cat Day! Every week, we post news and photos, communicate with our online supporters, and of course, lampoon our office cats’ antics with fun Alley Cat Allies LOLcats.

Help Us Help You—Support the National Cat Help Desk
Calico Cat

In order to better support the people that contact us every day looking for help and guidance protecting and caring for cats in their communities, we established the National Cat Help Desk this year. Every day, this specialized team answers calls from Americans seeking humane approaches for cats and puts them in touch with the resources they need, be it local Feral Friends, educational materials, or information gleaned from our 20 years of experience. Help support the team that supports you and others that care for cats!

Teaching Veterinarians about Feral Cat Care
Tuxedo Cat with an eartip

We’ll be exhibiting at the Atlantic City Veterinary Conference in New Jersey this month, educating the people on the front lines of cat care about proper feral cat protocols. Since our founding in 1990, we’ve helped develop humane standards of care that make neutering feral cats easier and safer for everyone involved. Veterinarians and their staff are crucial members of our movement, and our veterinary awareness materials help them understand feral cats and how to work with them.
Visit our veterinary resource center and share it with your veterinarian.
