Maryland could become the second state in the nation, behind only New York, to ban the harmful and traumatic practice of cat declawing!

If you live in Maryland, you can make it happen by urging Governor Larry Hogan to sign a pair of bills from the Maryland General Assembly that will prohibit declaw surgery.

Take action now: Ask Governor Hogan to outlaw declawing throughout Maryland. Ask him to sign HB 22 / SB 67 into law!

These bills have passed the legislature with strong support but still need the governor’s signature to become law. So please, take a few minutes to urge Governor Hogan to sign the declaw ban now on his desk.

Let him know that declaw surgery is not a nail trim, but a surgical amputation of the last joints of a cat’s toes that can have severe consequences for the cat. Without their claws, cats can’t perform many of their natural behaviors, can feel unsafe, and can experience issues with walking and balancing. The pain and discomfort caused by declaw surgery can lead to permanent physical and mental harm.

New York state and 13 major cities in the United States have already banned declawing to protect the wellbeing of cats. This is our chance to ensure Maryland joins them!
