ALLEY CAT ALLIES, MONESSEN CITIZENS PRESS FOR HUMANE POLICIES FOR CATS
Community Meeting on Thursday; Local media invited
MONESSEN, PA — Alley Cat Allies, the cats’ leading advocate, will join citizens of Monessen and local animal protection groups at a Community Meeting on Thursday, July 14.
“Monessen’s citizens want humane policies and solutions for cats. We are here to help and to provide direct support to the cats and their caregivers,” said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies.
The meeting is part of a grassroots organizing effort to rally like-minded citizens and establish humane approaches for the cats of Monessen. In March, the city hired a private trapper to trap outdoor cats and bring them to a local shelter to be immediately killed. The trapping, which was carried out with no prior notice to town residents, resulted in the deaths of dozens of cats. Many of the cats’ caregivers did not discover their fates for nearly a week following the trapping.
