Alley Cat Allies Privacy Policy

Not only does Alley Cat Allies care about cats, we care about your right to privacy and we are committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. We have created the following privacy policy to inform you about the ways in which we collect and use your personal information.

Alley Cat Allies does not collect any information from you without your knowledge and permission. Information you provide to Alley Cat Allies is stored in a secure location and is accessible only by designated staff. Do not provide personal information to Alley Cat Allies if you do not agree with the policy below.

Security Measures
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. This includes a firewall and 24/7 monitoring of site activities by our hosting service provider as well as 128-bit SSL encryption (where allowable by law) on all transaction-oriented operations between you and Alley Cat Allies via our transaction service provider.

Various Registrations
In order to receive certain updates or use certain features of this website, a user may have to first complete a registration form. During registration, a user is required to give their contact information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact the user about the services on our site for which they have expressed interest. If asked for, it is optional for a user to provide certain demographic information, but encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our site.

Online Activism
To send a message from our online action center to government officials and other decision-makers you must identify yourself by name, address, and e-mail address. Alley Cat Allies includes this information when we send your message. This is necessary for your message to be effective, and in the case of many government officials, it is required.

Communications from Alley Cat Allies
If you have opted to receive any of our publications by email you are able at any time to unsubscribe by following the directions that appear here and in the email publication itself or by contacting Alley Cat Allies.

When you provide Alley Cat Allies with your email address and mailing address, we may contact you to ask you to become a supporter of Alley Cat Allies or send you the latest edition of our newsletters. You can choose not to receive such materials by contacting us at webmaster@alleycat.org or updating your profile at the “my profile” page.

It is the practice of Alley Cat Allies to exchange the names of our donors and supporters with other charities that share our values.  We do this in order to expand our donor base and spread our mission and to support those charities who we feel are working toward the good of animals and our community. In this exchange, we will only share names and physical addresses. It is not Alley Cat Allies’ practice to share e-mail addresses or other personal information.

We will always honor requests not to exchange your personal information. If you would prefer that we remove your information from our exchange list, please e-mail us at donate@alleycat.org. Please keep in mind that some exchanges are completed up to three months in advance. Once you have requested that your name be removed from the exchange list, please allow up to three months for the change to be complete.

Secure Transactions
When you donate to Alley Cat Allies or purchase items from our Marketplace via our website, your personal information is encrypted and transmitted via a secure connection. Alley Cat Allies uses your credit card information only for the purpose of processing your donation. We will not disclose this information except as necessary to process your donation or purchase and we do not store it once your donation has been processed.

Correct/Update Personal Information and Choice/Opt-Out
Our site provides users with the opportunity to change and modify information previously provided and to opt-out of receiving communications from us at the bottom of every email.

This site gives users the following options for removing their information from our database to not receive future communications or to no longer receive our service: update the “my profile” page or emailing webmaster@alleycat.org.

Feral Friends Network
If you or the organization you represent are accepted as a member of the Alley Cat Allies Feral Friends Network and you have provided us with an e-mail address, then you will automatically receive Feral Friends Exclusive e-communications.

Also, the following information will be shared with those requesting help:

  • Your or the organization’s name, city, state or province, and country.
  • The contact information that you or the organization has granted permission for Alley Cat Allies to give out.
  • A listing of the feral cat-related services that you or the organization provide and any associated requirements for providing those services, such as that all cats be eartipped.
  • The areas (city, county, etc.) where you or the organization provide services.
  • The Trap-Neuter-Return or veterinary procedures that you or the organization follow.
  • If applicable, any information contained on the organization's website.

Links to Third-Party Websites
Through our website, you may connect to third parties' websites. We are not responsible for the collection, use, maintenance, sharing, or disclosure of data and information by such third parties. We encourage our users to be aware of the varied privacy policies of websites that they visit.

Cookies
Other than the specific instances outlined in this policy, Alley Cat Allies does not collect personal information about users or how they use the site. Alley Cat Allies also does not use the information-tracking devices made possible through "cookies," small pieces of data that may be sent to your web browser from a server and stored on your computer's hard drive.

Java and Javascript
Java is a programming language that allows different kinds of computers to talk to each other. We use Java technology to provide functionality such as navigation menus, forms, and so on. You will still be able to use this website if you have Java or Javascript disabled, but some functionality may not be available.

Required Disclosures of Data and Information
Regardless of anything in this policy to the contrary, we may disclose personally identifiable information, with or without prior notice to you, when we believe that the law requires it, in response to subpoenas or at the demand of governmental agencies, to protect Alley Cat Allies, to protect other visitors to the website, or to respond to an emergency.
